Yipes! Look at that S car go!
I've only seen those large-shelled snails once or twice up here, Lori, but some friends in Central Austin have lots of them.
Is this the first bud on 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' to open properly? It's splendid.

Nancy - Thank you! It's the first bud on that rose to open properly this year, and there are a lot of buds. I just took a look at your blog and it looks fabulous. Your post on dahlias reminded me of my mom, who also grew them when I was little.
Annie - Heehee. I am sad to say that the S cars hold their version of the Indy 500 my garden, and that little snail is maybe a third of the size of most of my snails. I can't grow most succulents very well because they're total snail buffet. And yup, that is indeed the first bud to open properly. My fingers are crossed for the rest, since the bush is absolutely smothered in buds.

How intricate that rose is. Tell us how it smells! I always have to smell them. It's beautiful.
